If you like nostalgia, now is the time to take a few photographs of the village hall. Construction of the new hall is scheduled to start on 4 th January 2010 with the demolition of the existing hall.
Our old hall has served us well for the best part of 60 years, but is now well past its best and failing to meet current expectations.
The new building will have a main hall the same size as the existing, but in addition there will be a committee room with a sliding partition which will open onto the main hall. A good size kitchen (6m x 6m) with double serving hatches; one for food and one for beer will be provided with a back door onto the car park through which said food and beer can be brought into the kitchen.
Toilet facilities and showers will be provided, which can also be accessed through a separate outside door for those coming off the field with muddy boots. Storage facilities and a consulting room/office/further store will also be provided.
A covered deck will be provided along the field side of the hall, accessed through patio doors from the main hall allowing users to enjoy views across the village.
Heating and hot water for the new hall will be provided by air source heat pumps. The main hall will use warm air, coupled with a fresh air ventilation system designed for an occupancy of 80 people with heat recovery from the exhausted air. The committee room, kitchen and consulting room will have ceiling or wall mounted units and the changing rooms under floor heating. The changing rooms will also have
Heat recovery ventilation. As far as heating is concerned the systems will have a minimum efficiency of 350% and considerably more in the summer for hot water generation. 500l storage will be provided for the showers.
The use of heat pumps means that cooling will be available in the summer for all areas except the changing rooms. Similarly, efficient lighting systems will be installed.
This may seem a little elaborate for a village hall, but new building regulations are demanding much higher standards in both the construction of the building and what goes into it, to drive up energy efficiency and reduce the carbon foot-print. The new hall exceeds all current legislation and encompasses that coming into force in a few years time.

The Village Hall was erected in 1955 and has served the community for more than 50 years. Located in the centre of the village it is used by a variety of local and national organisations supporting both young people and adults. In addition to the village-based organisations other groups also hire the Hall for occasional or regular functions, activities and training classes.
Plans are well advanced to build a new hall and, subject to raising the necessary funds, it is hoped that building work will start in the near future. Planning permission has already been granted and the plans are available for inspection by anyone interested in helping with the project.
The hall is adjacent to the village green with which it shares a car park that is suitable for about 20 cars if they are parked tidily. The village green can be used subject to approval of the Parish Council and the payment of the appropriate licence fee. The Hall has level access and there are no steps into the main hall. There is one step into the meeting room.
The main hall is approximately 8 metres X 14 metres and has a sealed wooden floor. It is marked with a badminton court and is well lit with both natural and artificial light.
Chairs and tables are kept in a separate storage area so they do not impact on the floor size except when in use.
Behind the hall is a self-contained meeting room approximately 3 metres X 5 metres. The kitchen is fully fitted with a cooker, refrigerator and kettles. Crockery and cutlery is available but exact needs should be checked before hiring. There are separate Ladies and Gentlemen’s toilets but it should be noted that they have not been converted for disabled use.
