The Kings Head has re-opened, after a relatively short leave of absence! It is incredible what can be achieved when a deadline and hard work are combined. I committed to Bill Rampling, in a mad moment, that we would be open to support the Jubilee weekend activities. Over the three week period we managed to: completely re-decorate the 'front' and 'back' bars and the loos, introduce new beers & related equipment to serve and thoroughly clean a building that had been neglected by the hygiene police! For those that wandered past during those crazy weeks, you will have witnessed Andy & Jane hard at work decorating, my wife and sister in law scrubbing and cleaning, Ian Spinks on a daily visit to ensure that we would be set to pour on the Friday 1st June and countless others who contributed to breathing new life into the pub. The 're-opening' weekend was fantastic - a testament to the work done coupled with the widespread enthusiasm from the village. So firstly - a huge thank you to everyone who helped us get the pub re-opened, and to those that have supported the work done with your custom.
Listening - is top of the list for us at the moment. It is your pub and your views are incredibly important. I have spent as much time as possible in the pub (mostly on the working side of the bar) in an attempt to meet and listen to as many people as possible. If you have a view and I have been remiss, failed to pay sufficient attention or it has been too chaotic to talk - then please feel free to call/visit and let me know what you would like to see. I can not promise that we can deliver on everything, but we'd love to try.
We hope that this is the start of a long journey for the Kings Head. For those of you that we have not managed to speak to it is important that you are aware of what we are looking to do. The plan is to run the pub 'as is' for the next few months, whilst we engage with the planning authorities to obtain all the necessary approvals to progress with the next stage of development. We are intending to re-establish a restaurant serving locally sourced produce in a family friendly environment, creating a private events room to host a range of activities from dinners to corporate gatherings, providing a series of rooms for accommodation and importantly maintaining a significant area of the pub available for drinkers only. Unfortunately we can not commit to dates at this stage, as we have work to do in ensuring that plans (and finances!) are acceptable and in place - but, we are progressing.
The role of the pub in a village community is hugely important - we understand and appreciate that. We are hoping that the work we will be doing and the business we will create will be a significant source of business opportunities and employment for those in the community. We have already spoken to the newly formed Moulton Vets team regarding a potential sponsorship, we are looking at opportunities to host evenings/events over the summer and I am continually asked by Georgina (our 11 year old) to host a 'dog agility' show at some stage (she normally wins me over - so watch this space!). If you have ideas, suggestions or would like to help us further involve the pub in the community please feel free to shout.
For the next few months the pub will be open at the following times (below), we are flexible - hence if you have a special event or a reason to change the times please let us know and we will do our best to accommodate. Following the excellent job that Andy did on the decorating it appears that he does not want to leave! Andy, his future wife to-be, Jane, and their dog (Molly) will be a familiar face to those that visit the pub - they are doing an excellent job managing things as we get up and running.
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday: 5pm-11.30pm
Friday: 5pm - midnight
Saturday: 12pm - midnight
Sunday: Lunch time.
We love dogs and so does the pub, there will always be a bowl of water and snacks for our 4-legged customers.
Food - we can accommodate sandwiches etc on a pre order basis, and we intend to host a series of evenings with food over the next few weeks (details to follow), again - if you need something, please ask.
Jobs - if you are interested in bar work, please come by for a chat.
This has been a hugely rewarding experience, made particularly special by the appreciation many of you have showed following the work done to date. Thank you again for your continued support.
